Website design & development

I’m Steve, a freelance Web Designer & Developer based in South Yorkshire U.K. I create bespoke web solutions for businesses and individuals who need to improve or establish their web presence. Whether you are looking to freshen up an old site, or are setting up online for the first time, I can help you get the website of your dreams, at a price to suit your budget.

Why do you need a website?

More than ever, people search for the products and services they need online. A professional website can help you create a great first impression and stand out. At Layton Web Design you get a personalised design process with direct communication between client and designer. The result is a beautiful and modern website tailored to meet your individual needs and goals, that not only looks great, but performs well behind the scenes.

Affordable Solutions

With solutions developed to suit your budget, all this comes without the premium price tag. A beautiful and unique website doesn't have to cost the earth.

A desktop monitor, tablet and 2 mobile phones, all of varying screen sizes, displaying a simple website landing page. Alongside them is a simple hand sketched plan for a website.

Wordpress

By using the Wordpress Content management system, websites can be easily edited and maintained by you. No need to hire someone for updates.

SEO

Search Engine Friendly

Websites Built properly are more easily understood by search engines. Giving you a solid foundation for climbing the ladder.

Fast Loading

Slow loading causes visitors to leave in frustration. All sites are designed with speed, and load times in mind.

Responsive Web design

Web pages are viewed on an ever growing number of devices ranging from desktop computers to mobile phones. A successful website needs to be designed to look good on all screen sizes, adjusting its appearance to whatever device it's being viewed on. This is known as ‘responsive web design’. It is particularly important to ensure that websites look good and function properly on mobile phones as they are now the primary method of viewing web pages for many users.

Every website I design is created using a responsive design approach, ensuring it will look fantastic, and work correctly regardless of the screen size it is viewed on.

the design process

step 1
consultation

The first stage of the design is to learn as much as possible about your company. I aim to gain a deeper understanding of your business, learning about your goals and vision, your marketplace, even your competitors and target audience.

We will also discuss any currently existing branding, along with any style preferences you may have. By developing this bigger picture, I can create something that will better meet your needs and represent your brand.

I aim to offer affordable solutions, created to suit varying budgets. A beautiful and unique website doesn't to have to come with a premium price tag.

step 2
design & review

Next I’ll generate some designs and concepts based on our conversations. We’ll talk about any potential tweaks or changes you’d like to see and develop a design you're happy with. At this point I will build out a portion of your site so you can see the final design at work. Once your are happy, we can move on.

step 3
website creation

Once your happy, I'll get to work expanding the design to the rest of your website. You can sit back whilst your vision comes to life. I'll be available for consultation throughout, and will create your site in pre-defined sections, for you to sign off on to make sure you are happy every step of the way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Need some more information? Some of the more common questions are listed below. If you can't see what you're looking for, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Will I own the website?

Absolutely, yes. Once the project is signed off and the contract completed, the website is yours.

What does SEO Ready mean?

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) Ready means that the website will be designed and built using best practices, optimising it's structure and metadata with search engines in mind. It also involves creating the website to be responsive and mobile friendly, with fast load times.

Being SEO Ready is not a quick fix solution, as scoring highly in search results is an ongoing process involving the creation and management of high quality, relevant content. However, it is an essential foundation and necessary starting point.

What is a content management system?

A Content Management System (CMS) is software that enables the user to create, edit and update the content of a website without the need for technical skills such as coding. By using a CMS you will be able to log in to your website and make changes such as updating text, changing pictures, or even adding entirely new content.

The software I use is ‘Wordpress’, which is freely available and widely used worldwide.

How much will it cost?

I don’t list prices on my website for the simple reason that every project, and budget are different. I aim to offer solutions to suit the needs, but also the budget of clients.

While the cost of a project can vary depending on what your individual needs are, I will always make sure that I am quoting a highly competitive price. Get in touch and we can work out how to deliver the website you want, without breaking the bank.

What support do you offer after launch?

After taking your website live, you will receive a period of ongoing support to ensure that there are no problems and everything runs smoothly. This will include technical support and troubleshooting. I will also be available to answer any questions that may arise.

For more long term support, I offer a maintenance service for long term peace of mind.

Do you provide hosting & domain registration services?

I don’t list prices on my website for the simple reason that every project, and budget are different. I aim to offer solutions to suit the needs, but also the budget of clients.

How long will it take?

The timeline for a project will vary depending on a number of factors, such as the complexity of the design, the required functionality and the availability of the client(s) for feedback and design revision.

A typical time frame can range between several weeks, and several months. To get a more detailed estimate of a timeline, please contact me and we can discuss your needs.

Do you offer custom designs or use templates?

Every website I create is custom built to specifically meet the needs of the client. I will never use generic templates.

Do you offer maintenance?

Yes, a website maintenance service is available to make sure that everything stays updated and working correctly.

What kind of input will you need from me during the design process?

During the initial consultation, I will aim to learn as much as I can about your individual needs. This will involve gaining a deeper understanding about your business - including your brand, target audience, even your competitors. I will also need to know about any design/style preferences you have.

You will also need to provide the content you want the website to display, such as descriptive text, product images etc.

At several points during the process, you will also be required for feedback and review to ensure that the designs meet your expectations.
